Flintstones on the rocks was a made for TV animated movie for Cartoon Network. It was made in 2001 during its "golden years"(by me at least), it was a undemed to aim the show to older age groups and redefine the series.
The movie deals with Fred and Wilma who are starting to have marriage issues. After the have a major fight, witness by there marriage Psychiatrist, there friend Barney suggests going on a vacation for there second honeymoon. When they get there their misadventures get mixed up with a jewel thief. Thur a bag switch aroo Wilma ends up with the thief's bag. So now the thief is after Wilma and Fred must become a better husband to save the day.
I have to say Ive never reaily been a fan of the Flintstones. But i was surprised at how funny this movie was. For a made for Cartoon Network movie, it was very adult(or at least pg 13). The jokes were more slapstick and wide range. With a couple nods to National Lampoons Vacation(1983).
Another thing that standed out was it's experimenting with the animation and story.One scene involves claymation while bowling. The whole scene is a thrill to watch from start to dinosaur licking ending. Also Thur out the character designs were changed from the original shows designs.
I first show this movie way back in 2001, during a cartoon cartoon show marathon. I recorded it for latter to watch that night. After watching it seven times, and enjoying it each time, i lost the tape somewhere. Recently while moving i found the long lost tape. After some research i found out how rare the movie was and now it's one of my few priced VHS tapes.
Flintstones on the rocks was a joy to watch and actually gets better with multiple viewing. Now that so many DVD companies/studios are releasing archive collection titles, this would be a great movie to realise like that.
Well worth buying if it ever becomes available.
