Assassination(1987) what a downer

Assassination is a flick I've been looking for awhile, since i first saw it on VHS at a local video store right when DVDs were becoming the new format to watch movies. It was the only Bronson movie at that store i hadn't seen. Shortly after the store closed for good. So it wasn't til i got this 3 pack i finally got a chance to see it. And boy what a waste it was.

Instead of a awesome over the top 80's action fest like Death Wish 3, i got a slow moving sleeping aid. The plot is the same old president(or in this case first lady), trying to live another day while there bodyguard trys all he can to protect him/her.
Simple as that.Unfortunately Everything in this more pretty much sucks. Bronson is reaily showing his age and he barely adds anything to the action scenes. He has a odd relationship with a coworker the goes nowhere, and hes romance with the first lady is nothing but slobby.

The action itself is just as bad. Theres multiple chases that lead nowhere, many of which use painfully different looking stunt doubles. One such scene has Bronson chasing someone and when his shot at, it cuts to a skinny man with black hair that looks nothing like Bronson. The ending boat chase is just as bad, there firing at each other point blank and they still miss.

Another thing about the flick is its over use of comedy that adds nothing to the story other then lightening up the plot for viewers. One that stands out like a sore thumb is the Indian car salesman. There is a main running joke about the first lady's dislike for Bronson. Of couse after a few chases near the end she forgives him.

Assassination couldve been a great trashy action classic, but instead it wanted to be a light hearted pleaser that didn't please at all. Just skip this one.
